Freedom debits your company bank account to fund payroll and payroll taxes, and to charge fees. Add it before you run your first payroll.
Open Company Settings.
Select the Bank Accounts card.
Click "Add bank account". During company setup, the "Connect a bank account" task has a "Connect your bank" button instead.
Sign in to your bank in the secure window that opens, then select the account you want to use.
Note: Payroll must come from a business bank account. After you connect it, Freedom verifies the account, and its row shows "Verified" when it can fund payroll. If the page shows "We're verifying this account", that usually takes 1-2 business days. You also need to authorize fee billing (see "Authorize fee billing" below).
Connecting another account doesn't change which account funds payroll. To switch, see Change the bank account that funds payroll.
Authorize fee billing
Freedom charges fees to your default funding account, and it needs you to accept the Terms of Service first. The account's row says "Please accept the terms to set up fee billing for this account", or "Accept the terms again to resume fee billing on this account". During company setup, the "Authorize fee billing" dialog opens on its own right after you connect your bank.
Open Bank Accounts.
Click "Authorize" on the account's row. If the button says "Reauthorize", click that instead.
In the "Authorize fee billing" dialog, select the checkbox "I accept the Terms of Service."
Click "Accept".
Fix an account that needs attention
Open Bank Accounts in Settings. Read the message on the account's row, or in the banner above the list, then match it below.
A banner that starts "We're verifying" says "This usually takes 1-2 business days. It will appear here once it's ready." To stop the verification, click "Remove" on the banner.
A banner that starts "We couldn't verify" says "The micro-deposits weren't confirmed in time." Micro-deposits are small test deposits that some banks use to verify an account. Freedom confirms them for you, so there is nothing for you to enter. Click "Add bank account" to connect the account again, or "Remove" to drop the connection.
"Can't fund payroll yet" shows where "Set as default" would be. The account can't fund payroll until its status shows "Verified". Wait for it to finish verifying, or choose a different account.
A "Reconnect" button, with a message such as "Sign in again to keep payroll funded", "Access expires soon", or "Payroll can't draw from this account": click "Reconnect", sign in to your bank again, and select the account when your bank asks which accounts to share. If a message says the reconnect didn't finish, click "Reconnect" again and complete every step.
"Your bank won't accept fee debits here": click "Add bank account" and connect a different account. For "Fees can't be billed to this account. Contact us and we'll help.", contact support.
A red message after the bank window closes, such as "Your bank locked this account after too many attempts. Unlock it on your bank's website, then try again." or "Too many attempts. Wait a few minutes and try again.": do what it says, then click "Add bank account" again. During company setup, the button is "Try again".
During company setup, a red message under the account explains why it can't be used, for example "This looks like a personal account. Payroll must come from a business account." Click "Replace bank account" and connect a different one.
