Delete a draft payroll

Click Delete draft at the top of any step of a draft payroll and confirm. A deleted regular payroll isn't recreated for its pay period.

  1. Go to Pay from the sidebar and open the draft payroll from "Upcoming payrolls" or "Late payrolls".

  2. Click "Delete draft" at the top of the page. It is on every step: "Payroll details" (called "Payment details" for a bonus, commission, reimbursement, or contractor payment), "Who's getting paid", "Employee earnings", "Contractor payments", and "Review & approve".

  3. In "Delete this payroll draft?", click "Delete draft". Freedom takes you back to the Pay page.

Note: A draft is a payroll you haven't approved yet. Deleting removes the draft and everything entered on it. You can't undo this.

Caution: Freedom creates each regular payroll draft once for its pay period. If you delete a regular payroll draft, Freedom doesn't create another one for that period. If you only need to change who is on it or what they are paid, edit the draft instead. If you deleted a regular payroll by mistake, contact support. See Contact Freedom support. To see why a draft might not appear, read How your regular payrolls are generated (and why one might not be).

If you can't delete a payroll

  • New payroll: "Delete draft" appears after you click "Save & continue" on the first step, because the draft doesn't exist before that. Until then, click "Cancel".

  • Approved payroll: Only drafts can be deleted. To change an approved payroll before it starts processing, click "Reopen payroll" on it. Once it starts processing, see Correct a payroll error.

  • "This payroll can no longer be deleted": Refresh the page to see its latest status. Only a draft can be deleted.
