If you're moving off Freedom — switching providers, closing your business, or winding down payroll — you start by sending us a close request from your company settings. You choose your final payroll date and how your remaining quarterly filings are handled, and our team takes it from there.
Note: Nothing closes right away. Submitting the form sends a request to our support team, and we'll reach out to coordinate the rest with you.
Submit your close request
Go to Company Details in your settings.
At the bottom of the page, under No longer need Freedom to run payroll?, select Close company account.
Choose a Reason for closing — Closing the business, Switching payroll providers, Company was acquired or merged, No longer have employees, Cost, or Other — and add Additional details. Details are required if you choose Other.
Enter your New payroll provider if you have one, and answer a short question about them.
Set your Final payroll date with Freedom — the date of the last payroll you expect to run with us. This is yours to choose.
Choose how to handle Quarterly tax filings, then select Submit request.
You'll see Request received, and our team will reach out to coordinate your offboarding.
Choosing how your quarterly filings are handled
The last step of the form asks how you want your remaining quarterly returns handled. You have two options:
File and pay for the current quarter. We file and pay your quarterly returns through your final payroll.
Stop filing returns immediately. We stop filing on your behalf and you take over from here.
Note: This choice decides who is responsible for your remaining returns, so if you aren't sure which one is right for you, contact support before you submit.
Get your payroll records
Your payroll records live on the Reports page. See View payroll reports for how to find and read them.
Note: You don't lose your reports when your company is closed. You'll still be able to reach them as long as you have access to Freedom, and our team will coordinate that with you as part of your offboarding.
