Before Freedom can file and pay your payroll taxes with federal and state agencies, you authorize us to act on your company's behalf. You complete this authorization from your company settings or, during onboarding, from the "Authorize tax filings" task. The forms must be signed by your company's signatory, usually a company admin or your CPA.
Authorize tax filings from Settings
Open Settings.
Select the Filing Authorization card.
Follow the on-screen steps to sign the forms that authorize Freedom to file and pay your company's payroll taxes.
When you finish signing, select the Settings link at the top of the page to return to your settings.
Once your first payroll is paid, the "Action items" list on Home shows "Sign your filing authorization" with a "Sign authorization forms" button until every form is signed. When you finish, that item goes away. If you sign from Settings while you're still onboarding, the "Authorize tax filings" task also shows "Done".
Authorize tax filings during onboarding
The "Authorize tax filings" task stays locked until the "Connect a bank account" and "Set up federal taxes" tasks show "Done". Until then, it reads "Connect a bank account first" or "Set up federal taxes first".
When you finish, the page shows "Task complete" with a button to your next onboarding task. If no other task is ready to start, the button says "Back to onboarding".
