Download a payroll as a spreadsheet (CSV)

Download one past payroll's pay, taxes, and deductions for each worker as a CSV file you can open in Excel or Google Sheets.

You can download a single payroll as a CSV file, with one row for each person paid. Use it to reconcile a payroll or share it with your accountant.

Download the CSV

  1. Go to Payroll history, or choose Pay, then History, from the sidebar.

  2. Find the payroll you want. Use the "Payday", "Status", or "Type" buttons above the table to narrow the list. Types include Regular and Off-cycle.

  3. Click the actions menu (the three-dots button) at the end of that payroll's row.

  4. Choose "Download CSV". A "Preparing CSV…" message shows while the file is built, then it downloads to your computer.

Note: "Download CSV" appears once a payroll is Paid or Partially paid, when its numbers are final. It isn't available for Draft, Pending, Processing, or Failed payrolls. If the download fails, try again, and contact support if it keeps happening.

What's in the file

  • One row for each employee and contractor paid on that payroll.

  • The pay period, the payday, and how each person was paid (direct deposit or a manual payment).

  • Gross pay, net pay, and reimbursements.

  • Earnings by type, with hours where they apply.

  • Each tax withheld from employees and each employer tax, with the wages it was calculated on.

  • Benefit contributions from each employee and from your company.

Note: Each file holds one payroll. If you ran more than one payroll on the same payday, for example a regular and an off-cycle payroll, download each one separately. The file name starts with "payroll-journal" (a payroll journal is the standard report accountants use) and includes the payday.
