Go to People and click on the employee you need to update.
Open the "Post-tax Deductions" tab on their profile page.
Add or modify deductions using the embedded interface. You can set up child support garnishments (which require a case number, agency state, and amount), miscellaneous garnishments (bankruptcy, tax liens, student loans), or other deductions (union dues, donations, etc.).
Save your changes. Deductions will be automatically applied the next time payroll is run for this employee.
Note: Child support garnishments are always processed first, per federal law. If applying all deductions would result in negative net pay, lower-priority deductions are skipped and a warning appears on the payroll item. Deductions must be created before a payroll is approved to be included in that run.
Import deductions in bulk from a spreadsheet
Go to People, open the "Bulk Import" menu, and choose "Post-tax deductions".
On the Template step, click "Download Template" to get a CSV with the required columns, then fill in a row for each deduction. Every row needs an Employee ID, a Description, and an Amount.
On the Upload step, drag your completed CSV into the upload area, or click it to browse and pick the file.
On the Preview step, review the rows. Any row missing a required field is highlighted — you can still continue, but highlighted rows may not import. Click "Import Rows" to start.
On the Results step, see how many deductions imported successfully and how many failed, and expand the error details to find any rows that need fixing.
Note: Each row is matched to a person by their Employee ID, so include it for every deduction. Imported deductions apply on the next payroll you run for that employee, the same as deductions added on a profile.
