Open People from the sidebar and click the employee or contractor you want to terminate.
On their Employment card, click the red "Terminate" button in the card header.
In the "Terminate employee" or "Terminate contractor" window, set the "Effective termination date" to the worker's last full day of work.
Click "Terminate", then "Confirm termination" to finish.
Note: The effective date is the person's last full day of work. A termination on the final day of a pay period still counts as the whole period worked, so that period's pay is included.
What happens after you terminate someone
The person is marked terminated as of the effective date, and that date shows on their Employment card.
If they were an admin, their access is downgraded to a basic user.
For employees, some states require the final paycheck immediately. Verify your state's final-pay rules before you set the date.
Note: If the "Terminate" button is greyed out, the worker has no start date yet. Add a start date on the Employment card first, then terminate.
