Set an employee's pay

Add, change, or remove an employee's pay rate so it prefills every payroll.

An employee's compensation is their default pay. Once you set it, Freedom prefills it on every payroll so you don't re-enter it each time. You manage it from the Compensation card on the employee's profile.

View an employee's current compensation

  1. Open People and click the employee you want.

  2. Find the Compensation card on their profile. It shows the amount, the compensation type (Hourly, Annually, or Per piece), the workweek hours, and the rate name if one was added.

Add a default pay rate

  1. Open People and click the employee.

  2. On the Compensation card, click "Add compensation".

  3. Choose a Compensation type — Hourly, Annually, or Per piece — and enter the Amount.

  4. Optionally add a Rate name (for example, "Standard Rate") and set the Workweek hours (the default is 40).

  5. Click "Add compensation" to save.

Note: This becomes the employee's default pay and prefills automatically on every payroll.

Change the pay rate

  1. Open the employee's profile from People and go to the Compensation card.

  2. Click "Edit", then update the Compensation type, Amount, Rate name, or Workweek hours. If you change the compensation type, re-enter the Amount.

  3. Click "Save Changes", review the before-and-after in the confirmation window, and confirm.

Note: Saving a change creates a new rate and retires the previous one, so the employee always has a single current rate.

Remove or deactivate a rate

  1. Open the employee's profile from People and go to the Compensation card.

  2. Click "Edit", then click "Deactivate" and confirm in the window that appears.

Note: With no active rate, the employee has no default pay, so you'll need to enter their compensation manually on every payroll until you add a new one.
